I did a shoot in April with Chris Morairty Photography near the Sacramento Capitol building and it was a lot of fun! I have known Chris for many years so it was fun to shoot with him again. I wanted to get photos with my new purple shiney hoops from SuperHooper.com! I love these hoops and I am so excited to perform with them! I got 5 hoops in order to train to multiples on-body.
I am looking forward to expanding my hooping skill set and bringing more inspiration to my clients. Last month I had the pleasure of performing at the Crocker Art Museum's monthly Art Mix event. The January theme was LIGHTS and we were able to provide the perfect LED entertainment! My self and performance partner Kenneth Jordan performed two sets at 6PM and 8PM. I performed a five hoop LED piece and then together we performed an LED partner poi piece-the crowd loved it! Some photos from the event are below, most are by Dave Otsubo. Earlier last week I had the privilege of participating in Sac Cirque's debut show at the club Badland's in midtown Sacramento. It was such a fun time performing with so many friends and artists from the area! It was truly a rush to be able to share what we love with so many from our community. I performed a solo hoop piece and also had my belly-dance debut! It was a great experience to be able to dive into another form of dance and I am excited for the effect it will have on my performance style and confidence.
All in all, such a great night and experience! A couple of months ago I did a photo shoot with Erik Fritts in Old Sacramento with my double rainbow LED hoops and it was super fun! I love so many of the pictures, and the best one's were not in our original plan. It also looks like I have a thing for brick walls :)
Last month I did a photo-shoot with Lisa Marie Garris of Surreal Fire Conclave. I had been wanting to shoot with Lisa for a while because we have matching garter belt pants and she is also one of my oldest fire spinning friends. The photographer is a good friend of ours, April Luke, and shot right outside her place! I really love how the fire reflects off the brick wall-it's absolutely gorgeous!
Enjoy! I was mainly attracted to the experience for the opportunity to challenge myself as a performer without relying on my LED or fire props and it definitely lived up to my goal. While I enjoyed the experience, I realized being on a stage made it harder to connect with my audience. It's fun to showcase yourself-but I'm really in it for the connection and the lack of eye contact and engagement made me a little sad. It was just so bright up there! That made it somewhat difficult to see and connect. All in all it was quite the learning experience for me and a great show.
Photos by phototia.com This year I had the incredible opportunity to perform in the Fire Conclave at Burning Man 2014 with Surreal Fire based out of Sacramento, CA. This has been a bucket list dream of mine since attending Burning Man in 2011 for the first time and becoming deeply moved and inspired by the spinners performing before the man burn. Before the show the wind and dust was so intense I was sure we weren't going to perform and I struggled not to feel sad and bitter about not fulfilling my dream. But! As it happens the dust and wind cleared about 20 minutes before we were scheduled to go on and the show went on. It was incredible to perform with some of my closest friends at an event so close to our hearts. I'm not sure I'll do it again-it's months of preparation for a short show, but I'm happy to cross that one off the list! Before the burn I also organized a photo shoot with Victor G photo and it actually happened! Quite the impressive feat for attendees of Burning Man ;) Props to my friend Veronica for braving the morning playa sun with me and playing safety! The San Francisco Fire Expo is an annual event hosted by Glitter Girl and the Temple of Poi in the middle of Union Square. The event features over 30 acts of fire performers from all over the West Coast. I had a great time performing a group fan act with Obsidian Butterfly and a hoop/poi duet with Lisa Marie Garris from Sacramento, CA. Check out some photos from the show below! |
